10 Tips To Start The Day On A Positive Note

Let’s face it, mornings either make or break you. Whether or not you’re a morning person, if you start the day on a positive note it will help you to set up your day to be a great one. After all, one of the keys to success is choosing joy and with that comes a more positive-filled life.

Being positive is a choice. Our moods can shift our whole day, and how you decide to let your mood affect you will determine how the rest of how your day goes. It’s hard, some days we feel down more than others, not everyone has a great day every single day. But regardless of the challenges and downfalls that we experience in our lives, some of the happiest and most successful people I know choose to start their day off in some positive way. Ultimately, it shifts their entire day, even when challenges arise.

I like to start my day off in the best state of mind possible. Interestingly this has shifted so much from my earlier twenties to my now later twenties. When I was in my early twenties, starting my day on a positive note meant being able to get out of bed at a decent-ish time and having my morning coffee. I know what you’re thinking….how is waking up at 10 a.m. and medicating yourself with coffee starting your day off on a positive note?

It’s not how I do things now. But I can definitely say that at the time, I thought it was a great day if I was able to get up by 9 a.m. Nevertheless, times have changed. I am a mother now, and have a busy life. But this is where I tell you, starting every morning on a positive note depends on your attitude.

Here are 10 tips to start the day on a positive note:

1. Wake up with a grateful heart

A great thing to do when first waking up is think about 3-5 things that you are grateful for. Say them in your head or say them out loud. This gets your mind going in the right mood and a positive direction.

2. Wake up on the 1st alarm

Easier said than done. I know, I know. I am all to guilty of this but I find when I wake up on the first alarm, it wakes me up quicker and I am more productive in the morning. Even though I’m tired at first, I am ultimately less groggy which helps me start the day on a positive note.

3. Drink water

This is something I have started doing since about one month ago. This helps with my health tremendously. I stopped drinking coffee and this serves as extra hydration in the morning and also an extra wake up.

4. Get in a workout

While working out in the AM isn’t for everyone, trust me when I say this has such a positive impact on our body and mind. This literally surpasses coffee as a pick me up. Working out in the morning is so beneficial and it’s a great way to start your day off in a positive note!

5. Meditate

Taking five minutes in the morning to meditate or even do breathing exercises are a great way to clear your mind before your day begins, therefor setting yourself up to have a great day. There are some breathing and meditating apps. If you have Alexa you can even do these hands-free!

6. Read or write

I have a friend who wakes up each morning and reads a chapter before she gets ready for her day. I have another friend who writes first thing in the morning. Writing in a journal, or affirmations are equally a fantastic method to start the day off on a positive note.

7. Have an early start to the day

Clearly, to do any extra activities in the morning, you’ll need to wake up early. I wake up around 5:30 a.m. every morning. I am striving for a 5 a.m. start now because I want to add in a more consistent workout routine in the mornings.

8. Healthy breakfast

No doubt this is also important. I start my day off with a delicious, protein packed smoothie. Eventually I also want to add in a dosage of celery juice first thing in the morning, before my smoothie. Celery juice has a tremendous amount of benefits and I am currently doing my research on that now. Stay tuned for a potential article on that!

9. Multitask with Podcasts

I love to listen to podcast while getting ready in the morning. Anything inspiring usually grabs my attention and is a great way to get some self care practice in while getting ready in the mornings.

10. Make it out the door on time

While this is a small action, it has a greater impact on your whole day. How many times have you ran out the door in a hurry and subsequently noticed a pattern of things just going wrong throughout your whole day?! It happens to me from time to time. Getting out the door on time or even early sets you up for a less stressful day.

I used to say I was never a morning person. However, now a days, I am a morning person by nature. If I don’t set myself up for success then I fail. Do I get back up? Of course I do. Not every day is perfect. But, ultimately, with practicing good self-care habits, your mornings can become more and more positive. The next time you find yourself waking up on the wrong side of the bed or just not feeling like doing life today, remind yourself of these tips to start your morning off in the most positive way.

How will you start off your morning in a more positive way? What helps you incorporate a positive outlook on each day?
