Conversations With a Blogger: Sydney Luella

This week I am thrilled to introduce you to Sydney who blogs over at Sydney Luella. She’s a self-proclaimed pizza addict with a penchant for sarcasm. She frequently writes about fashion, beauty, her online shopping addiction, and her love for New York City.

G20: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

SL: Of course! My name is Sydney and I’m a junior at the University of Florida. I’m studying marketing, although I’ve changed my major about five times (not kidding!). I’m currently spending the summer in NYC for an internship and I’m loving every minute of it. New York is by far my favorite city and I can’t wait to pack up and move here permanently after graduation!

G20: How did you get started in blogging?

SL: I actually started blogging for a few different reasons. The biggest reason was probably because it just looked like a lot of fun! I had followed a lot of blogs for a long time, and I always had a gut feeling that I wanted to start my own, so one day I just went for it! It’s also a nice break from school work and allows me to be creative.

G20: What is the most challenging thing about maintaining a blog?

SL: By far the most challenging thing is time management. Obviously, being a full-time student means school has to come first. It’s hard because I would much rather blog than study for a calculus test, but I have to keep up my grades and that’s the most important thing. I sometimes have to push my blog to the side for a week or so to focus on other work but I always try to keep some posts lined up to help me get through busier times!

G20: What is your favorite part about writing and documenting your life online?

SL: Another one of the reasons I started blogging was to have a sort-of online journal. I love going back and reading my old posts to see how far I’ve come! They make me cringe sometimes, but it’s actually really funny how it brings back so many memories! It’s also great meeting people in the blog world who enjoy the same things as you! I’ve made some great virtual friendships with people I never would have met otherwise!

G20: Other than blogging/writing, what are some of your passions in life?

SL: Besides blogging, I love all things social media and marketing related. I’m a total nerd and can often be found behind a stack of books, reading Adweek Magazine. I’m also really passionate about traveling and I have a list about a mile long of places I want to see! Cooking is also another major hobby of mine. I don’t really post my recipes on my blog all that often, but that might be because I have another massive food-related project in the works (hint, hint!).

G20: What is your favorite thing to blog about?

SL: This is so hard! I love blogging about literally everything. So that means I’ll write about food, fashion, beauty…random thoughts that cross my mind. You can pretty much find it all on my blog. I guess my favorite posts to write would be ‘inspirational’ posts. Not that anything I write is super inspirational, but I love being honest and real in my posts and letting people know that I’m not perfect! I always get a good response to those posts.

G20: Lastly, What are some of your favorite sites/blogs?

SL: You mean besides GenTwenty? I have SO many! I guess the ones that stand out are the ones I’ve read for years and years. Those are Cupcakes and Cashmere, The College Prepster, and Atlantic-Pacific. I also love reading online magazines/news sites like Refinery29.
