If you are ready to make some changes to your physical and mental health this summer, you came to the right place. Today I’m sharing some summer wellness challenges that are perfect to start this summer.
These will help you improve your wellness over the next few months. Whether you choose one, or mix up a few of them, you’ll find something on this list to jumpstart a new wellness journey.
Why Start A Wellness Challenge In The Summer?
The summertime is an ideal time to start a wellness challenge for a variety of reasons. The two reasons that come to mind the most are that the summer is less busy, and there are fewer holidays during that season as well. Let’s break these down a bit.
- The summertime is less busy: Whether or not you are still in school, for the most part summer is more relaxed for most people. It could be that it stays lighter longer, so it feels like you have more time to do things after work. Or maybe the summer just feels less busy. The point is to take advantage of that feeling by focusing on your wellness.
- There are fewer holidays in the summer: When you think about the fall and winter the holidays probably aren’t far from your mind. While it’s a great part of the year, it’s a less than ideal time to try and start a wellness challenge. That is why the summer makes a perfect opportunity for a wellness challenge. There may be some holidays but they are farther apart and not centered around big meals and yummy treats.

Summer Wellness Challenges To Try
These summer wellness challenges range from all-in-ones that cover multiple areas of wellness, to more single focused challenges. There are some that you can group together, and some that last a short period. Check them out and see which ones sound appealing to you.
The Whole30
For those of you that want to focus on healthier eating habits, The Whole30 may be for you. This challenge is all about avoiding food that has added sugars, and not eating any grains, dairy, legumes, baked goods, and not drinking alcohol. The Whole30 is a great way to learn if you have any food sensitivities as you start adding foods back into your diet after 30 days.
75 Hard, or Soft
When I think of wellness challenges, The 75 Hard comes to mind pretty quickly. If you are unfamiliar with this program, it consists of a few rules that you must complete each day.
- Follow a structured diet – no alcohol or cheat meals
- Two 45 minute workouts – one must be outside
- Drink a gallon of water
- Read 10 pages of a nonfiction book
- Take a progress picture
The 75 Hard has been known to be too challenging for some, which is why other versions have popped up like the 75 Medium and the 75 Soft. These are a lot more beginner friendly, while still remaining true to the basic idea of the program.
Couch To 5k Plan
Do you enjoy running, or is it something you want to get interested in? Then you may decide to do a Couch To 5k Plan this year for your summer wellness challenge. This challenge starts you off assuming you have no running experience, then by the end of it you will be able to run a 5k. There is even an app you can download to track your progress.

30 Day Hot Girl Walk Challenge
One of the best ways to enjoy summer is to soak up the sunshine- safely of course (don’t forget the sunscreen). Doing a 30-day Hot Girl Walk Challenge is a great way to get in the habit of doing daily movement, while also enjoying the beautiful weather. If you aren’t familiar with the Hot Girl Walk I wrote a post explaining it a while back. Grab a cute workout outfit, press play on your favorite confidence boosting playlist or audio book, and get walking.
Hydration Summer Wellness Challenge
It’s important that you stay hydrated always, but especially during the summer. If drinking water is something that is hard for you, why not turn it into a challenge to make it fun? Figure out what your daily intake should be. Experts recommend half of your body weight in ounces of water daily. Some people aim for a gallon of water,. See what is best for you. Something that is challenging, but not too extreme or hard to get to. Then make your water drinking fun! Add some fresh fruit or drink from a cute water bottle. There are many ways you can get yourself to drink more water.
21 Day Self Love Challenge
Focusing on your mental wellness should also be a priority this summer. A great way to do this is through self love. There are a ton of different self love challenges on Pinterest. They all involve doing activities each day that will help you show yourself some love. Simply pick one, or maybe even create your own, to get started on this summer wellness challenge.
Earthy 30
The Earthy30 challenge is all about improving your diet, creating healthy habits, and helping the earth. This challenge is unique in the fact that it has three levels to it. You can choose whatever level you want to do, not having to start at the beginning unless you want to. Here is how the levels work:
- Level 1: eat 30 different plant based foods in a week for four weeks
- Level 2: In addition to eating 30 different plant based foods each week, everyday you have to get 10 minutes of sunlight before 9am and 30 minutes of exercise (or 10,000 steps).
- Level 3: You’ll be doing everything from level two, but you can’t have caffeine after 2pm, or any alcohol at all. You also can’t have any food two hours before bedtime.

Digital Detox 30
The last summer wellness challenge on this list is another mental wellness one. This time we are doing a digital detox. The Digital Detox 30 is based on 30 days of cumulative actions that will help you unlearn some of your tech habits. Some of the activities you’ll be doing include turning off notifications on your device, not using your device while cooking/eating, and more.
And That’s A Wrap On Summer Wellness Challenges
Let’s make this a summer all about becoming our best selves! Which summer wellness challenge will you be doing this sunny season?
