In between each season there is always this sense of transition as we shift our mindset to what to expect in this next season. Weather changes, holidays, and more await us, especially in between summer and fall.
Some seasonal transitions are pretty natural and easy to adjust to. However the seasonal transition from Summer to Fall, in my opinion, is tougher than the others.
Going from a season all about fun, relaxation, vacations, and nice weather to a season known for routines, school, sicknesses, and cooler weather can be a big change. That’s why balance is key when it comes to the transition period between Summer and Fall. I’m here to get you ready for that transition by bringing you my tips for giving yourself balance between the two seasons.

A Practical Balance Between Summer And Fall
Tip 1: Don’t Immediately Cut Off The Fun
Trying to go from summertime fun straight back to busyness and routines is difficult and unrealistic. Make sure you save some room for fun during the late Summer and early Fall.
Take a late summer weekend vacation, spend a day off by the pool if it’s still hot, etc.. Then slowly start adding in some fall activities in there as well.
Tip 2: Between Summer and Fall Choose To Ease In To The Scheduling
While the Fall is full of demanding schedules and creating routines, you don’t have to overwhelm yourself. Start by adding in some new routines towards the end of summer so that the busyness comes at a more natural pace.
Some examples are going to bed early/waking up earlier or setting aside time at night to plan your next day, spending an hour or so on personal development or skill building, and more.
Tip 3: Prepare Your Body For Flu Season
It’s a good idea to focus on immune health while transitioning to Fall as well. This will help to ensure that you avoid common sicknesses like colds and the flu.
Fortunately there are some ways that you can prepare to fight off these illnesses. You can do this by getting enough sleep, eating nutrient-rich foods, taking supplements, and more.
Tip 4: Soak Up The Last Of The Longer Days
During this transitional time between summer and fall you’ll notice the sun setting earlier and earlier. It’s so important to make the most of the longer access to Vitamin D as much as you can.
You’ll find there are some great ways to soak of the last of the Summer days. Consider taking walks outside during your lunch break, reading outside, or visiting a park.

Tip 5: Test Out New Routines Between Summer And Fall
Your life circumstances may be different than they were before the start of summer. There are many reasons why the routines you used to have may not work for you now.
You could have changed careers, moved, changed your relationship status, started a family, etc.. Even if you’ve done none of those things, you are still a different person than you were in the springtime because we are always changing.
That’s why it’s important to try out new routines to see what fits in your season of life now. Some ideas to get you started are to try working out in the morning, read a few pages in a book before bedtime, and meal prepping on Sunday nights.
Tip 6: Get Excited For Fall
While Summer is usually thought of as the fun season, there are still a lot of fun activities that Fall has to offer as well. From going to the pumpkin patch to watching a scary movie, and much more, you can make a lot of fun memories in that season. Now is the time to start planning all that you want to do. The best way to do that is to create a Fall Bucket List.
Tip 7: Don’t Get Rid Of Your Summer Clothes Just Yet
This tip is specifically for those that live in a state that has unpredictable weather. Where I live it can seem like we get all four seasons in one week when the seasons are transitioning.
If you like packing away your seasonal clothes in between each season I would leave out a few options in case you need them on a random hot day. Layering is key when the seasons are transitioning, particularly between summer and fall.
Tip 8: Start Bringing The Cozy Back Into Your Life
This tip is all about bringing the cozy vibes back. From pulling out your scarves to adding some Fall decor to your space, it’s time to bring back Cozy Girl Fall. You can spend a whole day/weekend revamping your space/wardrobe/life to fit the upcoming season, or you can slowly add the Fall vibes back.

Tip 9: Reflect On Your Summer
I’m a huge journaling fan, so I love to reflect on each season and anticipate what I hope for the next season. Summer is sweet to reflect on, especially if you made a lot of fun memories. Here are a few journal prompts to use for your own reflection.
- What was your favorite Summer memory from this year?
- In what ways have you grown this summer?
- What is one lesson you have learned in this season?

Tip 10: Remember Summer Will Come Back Around
Whether Summer is your favorite season, or you just had a really great past few months and you aren’t ready to switch up the vibes, it can be hard saying goodbye to the sunny season. This in-between time of summer and fall can feel like a let down.
However, Summer will be back around before you know it and there are always more memories to make then. So reflect on the fun you’ve had! But, don’t lose sight of what good comes from the other seasons of life as well.
