Why Modern Weddings Are Breaking All The Rules

Gone are the days of cookie-cutter weddings with strict rules, traditions, and expectations. Today, modern couples are deciding against all that, and they’re making their own rules so their weddings can be as unique and special as they are, and that’s exciting, whether you’re getting married or you’re a guest. So what does it all mean and what can you do? Keep reading to find out why modern weddings are breaking all the rules.

The Wedding Venue Is Whatever You Want It To Be

Once upon a time, weddings were held in churches, grand ballrooms, or classic banquet halls, but now? Well, now your wedding venue can be pretty much anything and anywhere, so you can pick something that makes sense to you and your partner, as well as something that’s going to suit your guests perfectly.

Couples no longer want traditional spaces, and they’re trying everything from warehouses to the tops of mountains, which is ideal. In the past, a church wedding might have looked lovely, but if you weren’t religious, then it didn’t make all that much sense – now you don’t have to worry about it. Yes, of course you can still opt to get married in a church, but the point is you don’t have to if you don’t want to.

Traditions Are Optional

Modern weddings have gone a long way recently to prove that you don’t have to follow any wedding tradition at all unless they make sense to you (and some will – that’s your choice). Perhaps you don’t want to be ‘given away’ and you’d rather walk down the aisle together – that’s fine, you can do that. Or maybe you don’t want cake at your reception – well, what about donuts or cookies instead? Or how about something savoury?

Today it’s fantastic because couples can basically mix and match the old and new or come up with entirely unique ideas that will make their special day just that – special. And in the end, who really cares about the rules when you’re having fun and celebrating your relationship? It shouldn’t actually matter as long as you’re happy.

No Conventional Fashion

White dresses are beautiful, but they’re definitely not the only option, and modern brides are wearing everything from jumpsuits to colourful dresses or even black, which was unheard of in the past.

And it’s not just about the brides either – remember that grooms and members of the wedding party will all have their special outfits as well, and these can be just as creative as whatever it is the bride wants to wear. You could have mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses, brightly coloured suits, or some fun accessories like unique hats, and it all adds to the special feeling of the day. Being individual and expressing yourself how you want to on your wedding day is a wonderful way to start married life.

Final Thoughts

Modern weddings are meant to be a celebration of you and your partner, which is why they need to reflect the pair of you in whatever way makes sense. Don’t worry about what other people think or expect; this is your day and you get to choose.
