In case no one has told you, the Christian walk isn’t always smooth sailing. Sometimes it may appear that way, but I feel like it’s best to be honest about how your journey with faith can be. It is needed sometimes for moments of reconnecting with my faith that I know others experience too.
There are times where you can feel so strong in your faith and connected with God, then there are other times where you can feel disconnected from it all. While we all would prefer the first option, sometimes we get stuck in the latter season. In today’s post I’m sharing ways that I plan on reconnecting with my faith. You can use these tips for when you are feeling disconnected as well.

My Story of Faith
I’ve had moments where I’ve felt close to God, I read my Bible often, and just overall felt I was in complete sync with my faith. Then I’ve also experienced times where I’ve never felt further from God than I did in that moment, haven’t opened my Bible, and felt closed off from my faith. Then there are those moments in-between the two. Sadly, right now I’m feeling disconnected with my faith.
Something I’ve noticed is how strongly connected our faith is to other aspects of life. I like to think of it as spiritual wellness. It joins in with physical wellness, mental wellness, etc.. When one area is off balance the others don’t function properly either. Which is why it is important for me to get reconnected with my faith.
My Plan For Reconnecting With My Faith
These are in no particular order, but they are all important steps for getting back closer with God.
Start Reconnecting With Friends That Share My Faith
Being around others that share your faith is a great way to feel reconnected. You can be honest with them about how you are feeling and they will be there to help lift you up.
Just having a conversation can be all you need to get re-inspired and determined to pick up your Bible again. There is also the option of having accountability in your faith journey. You can start a Bible study together or commit to being prayer partners.
Any time that I have spent with friends that share my faith has always led to me walking away with my cup filled, as well as my spirit. I should definitely make time to reconnect again.
Find A Church
I didn’t grow up going to church. When I started regularly attending church in college I felt how important going to church is important to your faith. Fast forward a couple years, I found a church that I connected with. My faith grew exponentially while I was there, and I even got baptized there.
Unfortunately I had to stop going because it was a little too far away for me to attend every week. I felt like I could grow stronger community church ties by going to one closer by. And I still haven’t found one that feels like it fits for me. I stopped looking for a time and now I think it’s time to start trying to find a church home again.

Start A Bible Study As A Way To Reconnect With My Faith
Bible studies are a great way to lean into what you are reading in your Bible, and make more sense of it. I’ve learned a lot from Bible studies that I’ve done in the past. I should definitely start another one soon. There are a ton to choose from. You’ve got ones that focus on a certain book of the Bible, and others that focus on a certain topic (like prayer, grief, addiction, etc.).
Start A Prayer Journal
Sometimes I connect more with what I pray about by writing them down instead of speaking them. I used to think that was the “wrong way” to pray. Then I realized there really is no “wrong way” to pray, at least in my opinion, as long as you are talking to God. That is the most important thing.
Read More Christian Books
I love to read, so why not use some of my reading time to strengthen my faith? Christian books are great for helping you see not just the Bible, but the Christian faith in new ways.
Some of them are also inspiring for when your soul is weary. Some of the books I want to read are Jesus >. Religion by Jefferson Bethke and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
Find A Devotional App And Put My Notifications On
Devotionals are a great way to get bite-sized Bible teachings daily. There are a variety of physical devotionals out there, but I want to focus on the digital ones. Devotional apps are great because you can carry it with you everywhere and have access to them anywhere.
I want to pick one of the apps to start using on a daily basis again. That way, if I don’t get to my Bible study that day, at least I made a priority to read the Word in some way.

Play My Worship Playlist Throughout The Week As A Way To Reconnect With My Faith
I’ve always been able to connect to worship music faster than any other faith building resource. I have a Worship playlist that I listen to occasionally, mainly on a Sunday. I’d like to make a more current playlist and listen to it throughout the week. I know it will not only boost my mood, but help me feel closer to God.
Give Myself Some Grace
God doesn’t want us to be perfect, He just wants us to come to Him and be in relationship with Him. So why do we put all this pressure on ourselves to be “perfect Christians.”
I’ve decided to let go of the need to be perfect and give myself some grace. If I miss a day reading my Bible or praying, I’ll simply notice it and do better the next day. By letting go of the pressure to be perfect, I’ll have an easier time reconnecting with my faith.
Final Thoughts on Reconnecting with My Faith
Next time you are feeling low and sad about not having a strong connection to your faith, remember that this is a normal experience. Acknowledge it, then start rebuilding that faith muscle. Come back to this post as you need it. Let me know how you reconnect to your faith in the comments.
