Lull Original Premium Mattress Review: Is It Worth It for Twenty-Somethings?

Buying a mattress in your twenties is one of those “adulting” moments that sneaks up on you. One day you’re sleeping on a hand-me-down bed frame with a mystery mattress, and the next you’re waking up with back pain and realizing… okay, this might actually matter.

We recently tested the Lull Original Premium Mattress from Lull to see if it lives up to the hype — and more importantly, whether it’s actually a smart choice for twenty-somethings who want comfort without spending luxury-hotel money.

Here’s our honest, real-life Lull Original Premium Mattress review after sleeping on it for over a month.

Lull Original Premium Mattress review

Quick Verdict (For the TL;DR Crowd)

The Lull Original Premium Mattress is a medium-firm, all-foam mattress that balances pressure relief and support extremely well — especially for back and side sleepers. It’s comfortable right out of the box, isolates motion beautifully, and feels noticeably more elevated than a basic memory foam bed.

If you want a mattress that feels “grown-up” but not intimidating (or wildly expensive), this one checks a lot of boxes. It’s the perfect solution for comfort and affordability while also being a long-lasting investment in your wellbeing.

Who This Mattress Is Best For

This mattress is a great fit if you:

  • Are a back or side sleeper
  • Like the hug of memory foam, but don’t want to feel stuck
  • Share a bed and want excellent motion isolation
  • Sleep slightly warm but not furnace-level hot
  • Want a long trial period to make sure it’s right

You may want to skip it if you:

  • Hate memory foam altogether
  • Prefer an ultra-bouncy, springy mattress
  • Need very strong edge support for sitting or mobility reasons

First Impressions: Ordering, Delivery & Setup – A Lull Original Premium Mattress Review

Ordering and delivery was refreshingly simple. The mattress arrived compressed in a box and was easy to maneuver through doorways and tight spaces — a major win if you live in an apartment or walk-up or a smaller home like we do.

Once unboxed, it expanded quickly and evenly. There was a mild “new foam” smell at first (totally normal), but it dissipated within a day. No tools, no complicated setup, no stress.

If you’re moving often or don’t want to deal with traditional mattress delivery, this is a big plus! It still blows our minds just how easily we suddenly have an amazing new mattress ready to use.

Construction Breakdown: What’s Actually Inside

One reason the Lull Original Premium feels different from entry-level foam mattresses is its layering.

  • Quilted cover + quilted memory foam: This top layer adds immediate softness and breathability. It feels plush without being pillowy.
  • Gel-infused memory foam: Designed for pressure relief and cooling, this layer contours nicely around shoulders and hips.
  • High-resilience transition foam: This is where the support really kicks in, helping keep your spine aligned.
  • Dense support base: The foundation layer prevents sagging and adds durability over time.

All foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, which means they’re made without harmful chemicals and have low VOC emissions. Although some may think this seems a bit extra, we include it in our Lull Original Premium Mattress review because sleeping on something so intentionally made is not to be overlooked.

How It Actually Feels to Sleep on a Lull Original Premium Mattress

Firmness & Comfort Review

The Lull Original Premium lands solidly in medium-firm territory. It feels supportive without being hard, and cushioned without being mushy. You sink in just enough to feel cradled, but not swallowed.

Although I’m not one for a firm mattress, the support of this mattress gives you firmness without the rigidity and discomfort. We’re a huge fan of how it sustains proper alignment while sleeping. And while still cushioned, this mattress doesn’t make it feel like we’re sinking into a blackhole.

Pressure Relief

Side sleepers will especially appreciate how well it cushions pressure points at the shoulders and hips. Back sleepers get solid lumbar support without that stiff “board” feeling.

As a side sleeper myself and plagued with inflamed joints, this mattress has been a life-changer. No more weird numbness or aches wake me up like with my old mattress. We both feel the combined brace and give of this mattress leaves us more limber in the mornings.

Motion Isolation

This is one of the mattress’s strongest features. Movement barely transfers across the bed, which makes it a great option if you share your space with a partner, pet, or restless sleeper. When we thought of how we might review a Lull Original Premium Mattress, this aspect quickly came to mind.

As of now, we are alternating getting up with a baby so this feature means less disturbance for the one that gets to sleep. I am one to lay unusually still while I sleep but my husband moves around a lot. Not being able to feel the whole mattress shift when he does that has helped me sleep so much better.

Temperature

While it’s still an all-foam mattress, it sleeps noticeably cooler than traditional memory foam thanks to the gel infusion and breathable cover. If you’re extremely heat-sensitive, a hybrid might still be better — but for most people, this strikes a good balance.

Although I bank up heat like a furnace when I sleep, this mattress allows me to keep under the blankets all night without getting overheated. This is a big plus for us too when we’re snuggled up close and yet still comfortable.

Edge Support

Edge support is decent, but not outstanding. Sitting on the edge is fine, but if you rely heavily on edge stability, this is something to keep in mind.

I have found this better than previous mattresses we’ve owned but there are other options that may give more outer support. For us, this hasn’t been a component of concern in any way.

After the Break-In Period – Lull Original Premium Mattress Review

The mattress felt comfortable from night one, but it softened slightly after the first couple of weeks in a good way. By the end of the first month, it felt fully broken in and consistently supportive night after night.

No sagging. No weird dips. No loss of structure. If we haven’t already mentioned it in this Lull Original Premium Mattress review, this is a solid mattress.

Sleep Position Guide

  • Side sleepers: Excellent pressure relief
  • Back sleepers: Strong support and alignment
  • Stomach sleepers: May feel slightly too soft, depending on body weight
  • Combination sleepers: Easy enough to move around without feeling stuck

Trial Period & Warranty (Why This Matters in Your 20s)

One of the biggest perks of Lull is the 365-night trial. That’s a full year to decide whether this mattress works for you — which takes a lot of pressure off the purchase. You’re not stuck in a commitment if this doesn’t work well for you, you can change your mind!

The lifetime warranty also adds peace of mind, especially if you’re hoping to keep this mattress through multiple moves or life phases. And, when adding a mattress of this quality to your bedroom you’re also adding long-lasting sleep benefits that are backed by that lifetime warranty.
