Fun Baby Summer Activities To Do With Your Little One

Summer fun has a whole new definition when you have a baby. It involves different activities for sure, but there are a lot of fun baby summer activities – just a different kind of fun than what you’re used to.

Another thing? It can be daunting to try and figure out what to do with your baby. There are so many options of fun things to do, and yet, not one single thing can come to mind.

Inspiration for Summer Adventures with Your Baby

Don’t worry – that’s why we’re here to help you out. Here are some fun summer activities to do with your baby. Trust us – you’ll be having fun, too! Nevermind all of the memories you’ll be making; even if your baby can’t remember it just yet, you will! And, you’ll have photos from these activities to share with them when they get older.

Baby Summer Activities

Fun in the Sun Activities For Little Ones

Head To The Pool

Do you have a pool in your backyard? Or, do you have a friend with a pool? Do you have a town or community pool? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, there you go! Grab a baby pool float and head on over there.

If it’s your baby’s first time in the pool, make sure you give them time to acclimate to being in the water. Once they’re settled, then you can make it even more fun by singing songs together, splashing, or playing with any pool toys.

When packing for the pool, you’re going to need a bit more than if you were just packing for yourself; remember that. Be sure you have baby sunscreen with you for sure!

Head To The Beach As A Fun Summer Activity With Baby

Putting a baby in the ocean and putting a baby in the pool are two very different things. Actually putting your baby in the ocean (with mom or dad holding on!) is a personal preference.

But you can take your baby to the beach without putting them in the water. Be sure to bring a tent or umbrella for them to be able to sit in the shade. Don’t forget a fan and sunscreen for them, too!

Invest In Water Play

Even if you do not have a pool in your backyard, there are plenty of water play ideas you can still do without breaking the bank. There are so many different water tables on the market that will allow your baby to have exposure to different textures and let their creativity run.

But there are even more water related baby summer activity options. If your baby isn’t old enough for a pool yet, you can get a kiddie pool and fill it with minimal water for your baby to sit in.

There are also splash pads, too, or good ‘ole sprinklers you can set up in your front or back yard. There are sandboxes you can buy, too, that are great for sensory and imaginative play, all without getting wet!

“Play” With The Animals At The Zoo

We know that your baby may not really understand what animals are just yet. But we do know that they will enjoy seeing the different animals move, play with each other, and make noise! If your baby is a little older, see if there is a petting zoo near you.

This will get them up close and personal with the animals and expose them to new and different textures. If they’re old enough (and mom and dad are okay with it!) they can even feed the animals, too.

Baby Summer Activities

Head To The Park

If you have a park in your neighborhood, go! Even if your baby isn’t big enough to play on the toys, they will love seeing other children play. Lots of parks have baby swings, too, so if your child is sitting up (and if you’re comfortable with it, of course!) you can introduce them to the swings.

Many parks have picnic benches or grass that you can have a picnic on, too, if you want to make lunch an extra special one. If your baby isn’t mobile yet, lay them on a blanket on the grass in the shade under the tree, and let them see new things!

Keeping it Cool During Baby Summer Activities

Check Out The Library

We know how important reading to our babies is. We also know how good air conditioning feels during the summer, especially when you have a baby you need to keep cool.

Not only can you read and check out tons of books together, many libraries offer classes tailored to different age groups. See if your library has any classes you can take your baby to.

Have Playdates

Do you have other friends who have babies or young children? Have a playdate! It’s a playdate both for your baby or for you. You can have them at your house or you can head to theirs – whichever you prefer.

Hanging out with others who have kids and get it, really does make the whole getting together process when you have a baby a lot easier. Plus, if any of your friends also has a baby, they likely want adult interaction just as much as you do!

Check Out Local Classes For Baby Summer Activities

We told you to head to your local library to see if they have local classes, but go beyond that – see if there’s any other place in your neighborhood that offers baby or toddler classes. Check your church, local gymnastics place, or any kids spaces that are around you.

Some of these may have a price tag attached to it, but that is something you will know in advance. You may also be surprised to see that there are free options available, too.

Go On Vacation

This may seem daunting but hear me out. It is a lot more work than you’re used to take a baby on vacation rather than just taking yourself on vacation. But it is so worth it! It’s up to you if you want to brave the airplane or if you’d rather drive just a couple of hours away.

If you are able to take any sort of vacation, do it. It’ll be one of the best memories you’ll ever make. Believe us also when we say it’s actually much easier to go on vacation before they start walking, too!

Final Thoughts on A Fun Summer of Baby Activities

In the hot summer months, finding activities for your baby can seem difficult. But don’t be daunted, you can keep it simple, fun, and entertaining for your little one and even yourself. Which of these fun adventures will you try with you baby this summer?
