FabFitFun Year In Review: Is It Worth It?

FabFitFun Year In Review: Is It Worth It?

After getting three fabfitfun boxes in 2017, I decided to splurge for the annual subscription for 2018. I loved what I had received in my boxes and was intrigued by the choice options. I am an affiliate of the boxes because I love them so much, but I do pay out of pocket for my annual membership.

This post contains affiliate links. #FabFitFunPartner

For reference, the annual membership is $179 for four boxes. If you purchase each box individually, they are $49 but you can get your first box for $39 here with code WINTERFUN.

After a year of boxes, I thought it would be fun to go back over everything I received this year and share an update on whether or not I used the product or gave it away. Plus, I can see the personal value I got from each box to see if fabfitfun is really worth it.

For reference, if I already owned something and gave it away as a gift, I did include it as a “yes” in my personal value of the box. It brings me joy to share things I love with others, and I know that I already love the item because I already own it! I’m also only including the items I selected for my box personally and not all of the choice items. (Click the link at the start of each section to see what the full choices were for that season’s box!)

FabFitFun Year In Review: Is It Worth It?

FabFitFun Spring 2018 Review

1. Lipstick Palette from ISH $42:

I used this once or twice before passing it onto a friend. It wasn’t bad quality, but I have a big lipstick collection and knew I wouldn’t be reaching for this over my other formulas. I was glad to give it away but since it wasn’t something I would use or really liked, it wasn’t really worth it to me.

Worth it? No

2. Rachel Pally Reversible Clutch $60

I only used this once or twice this past summer but I really like it and plan to keep it in my collection for awhile. Even though I didn’t use it that frequently, I do think it was worth it and I’m glad to have it.

Worth it? Yes

3. Anderson Lilley Sunset Collection Candle $45

I loved the way this candle smelled and burned through it quickly. I also kept the copper container to use for makeup brushes.

Worth it? Yes

4. Free People Understated Leather Eye Mask $40

I’ve only used this a few times (I don’t use eye masks that frequently) but I do have it in my travel bag. I think it’s great quality and a nice-to-have item that was able to replace a very old one I had previously.

Worth it? Yes

5. Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion $40

I like Murad as a brand and ended up using this product up. I already had it in a travel size so I was glad to see it in the box.

Worth it? Yes

6.  Physique 57 Massage Roller $20

I was using this fairly regularly but recently discovered we ended up donating it accidentally! I’m sad not to have it anymore. It was definitely a nice item to have in the box and I miss having it around.

Worth it? Yes

7. Dermelect Makeover Concealing Ridge Filler $18

I used this only once or twice. I did like it when I used it but as I’m not big on painting my nails, I don’t use it that often.

Worth it? Eh. Sort of? Not really.

8. Maya Brenner Designs LOVE Bracelet $65

This is a cute little bracelet. I haven’t worn it that much but I do like it which is enough to make it worth it for me.

Worth it? Yes

9. Korres Guava Body Butter $24

I loved this lotion! I used it up by mid-summer.

Worth it? Yes

Thoughts overall on the Spring 2018 fabfitfun Box:

My box’s total value was $354.

My personal value from the box was $294.

The verdict: This box was one of my favorites that I’ve ever gotten! I liked and used almost everything included.

FabFitFun Summer 2018 Review

1. Foreo Luna Fofo $89

I still use this almost every night! I don’t know if it has made any real difference but I like using it.

Worth it? Yes

2. Summer & Rose Beach Towel $55

I used this towel multiple times this year even though I don’t go swimming or to the beach all that often. I think it’s great quality and thin enough to pack in a suitcase without adding too much bulk.

[I also added on the Yumi Kim Makeup Train Case ($58) for $10.]

Worth it? Yes

3. Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel $39

I haven’t used this yet because it can’t be used during pregnancy (I was around 15 weeks when I got the box and I’m 35 weeks as of writing this). I hope to use it after pregnancy because it sounds like just what I need!

Worth it? Don’t know yet.

4. Tarte Tartiest Pro To Go Palette $23

I thought the quality of this was nice and I was glad to see Tarte in the box! Because I already owned the other option so I picked this up instead. I ended up passing it along to my sister who really liked it.

Worth it? Not for me personally.

5. Minor History Post Script Wallet $20

I thought this was cute but not practical and the other choice options for this item didn’t appeal to me.

Worth it? No

6. Orlando Pita Play Atmos-Shield Hair Protectant Treatment Spray $34

I’ve used this a couple of times, but I typically don’t do much heat styling on my hair. It’s a nice product but not something I ever see myself using up. It’s a nice-to-have-on-hand but not something I use regularly. I almost wish I had picked the other option!

Worth it? Eh.

7. COOLA Face Sport SPF White Tea Moisturizer $32

I didn’t use this up but I did use it many times throughout the summer! It’s a great product and I’m glad to have it around.

Worth it? Yes

8. Pier 1 Imports Marble Ring Dish $15

I really liked this piece! I have it on my dresser for little bits and bobs.

Worth it? Yes

Thoughts overall on the Summer 2018 fabfitfun Box:

My box’s total value was $307.

FabFitFun Fall 2018 Review

1. Crown Brush 6 Piece Brush Set $75

I use a few brushes from this set regularly. It was a nice thing to include in the box, I think. That said, I would have liked to see a different brand that I like a little more, like Luxie.

Worth it? Yes

2. Alfred French Press $22

This isn’t something I use all the time but I think it’s so cute and I love having another way to make coffee.

Worth it? Yes

3. Catherine Malandrino Umbrella $40

In all fairness, I haven’t actually used this yet. It hangs in my coat closet for now. However, I am glad to have a small umbrella on hand in case I do need it.

Worth it? Yes

4. Farmacy Eye Cream $38

I really like the brand Farmacy and was happy to see it in the box! This eye cream isn’t the most hydrating and I haven’t used it up completely yet, but I do like it and know I will finish it.

Worth it? Yes

5. Grown Alchemist Restore Cream Cleanser $49

To be fair, I would not pay almost $50 retail for this. However, it’s been a nice product to use and I’m almost done with it.

Worth it? Yes

6. Beauty Blender $20

I’m a fan of the Beauty Blender and knew I would get use out of this! I put it in my makeup backup drawer and recently pulled it out to replace and old sponge.

Worth it? Yes

7. GlamGlow Bubble Sheet Oxygenating Masks $8×2

I love these masks and used both of them within two weeks of receiving my box!

Worth it? Yes

8. A Simply Whimsical Tea Towel $15

We currently have these in our kitchen. I think they’re great quality and were a nice bonus to the box.

Worth it? Yes

9. Skin & Co Roma Blue Shower Gel in Capri $22

I liked this shower gel a lot! I’ve used it up completely.

Worth it? Yes

FabFitFun Winter 2018 Review

1. BEARPAW Combo Set $45

I love the gloves out of this set but am not super keen on the headband. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but the gloves make it completely worth it to me.

Worth it? Yes

2. Oribe Dry Shampoo $44

I’ve been wanting to try this product for so long and was SO happy to see it in the box!! I’ve used it a couple of times so far and have loved it every time. It also smells amazing and doesn’t leave behind a white cast in my brown hair.

Worth it? Yes

3. Sherrie Matthews Acupuncture Jade Stone Roller $45

I picked the jade roller to give as a gift because I already own one. The recipient was happy to try it out so I’m calling it a win!

Worth it? Yes

4. Mark & Graham Colorblock Throw $49

I am always happy to have more throw blankets! This one is really soft and chic and I’ve been keeping it in my office while I work.

Worth it? Yes

5. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Meringue $26

This is another item I selected to give as a gift because I already own this exact color. I love this formula and was super happy to give it someone to try!

Worth it? Yes

6. Anthropologie x Mer-Sea & Co. Sea Whip Body Cream in Coconut Sugar $24

I chose this because I already have an extensive essential oil collection (the other option). The lotion smells so good and I know I’ll use it up once I get through what I’m currently using.

Worth it? Yes

7. AHAVA Hydration Cream Mask $33

I haven’t had a chance to use this yet! I like AHAVA products so I have high hopes for it.

Worth it? Not sure yet.

8. Blaq Eye Mask (5 masks) $29

I actually already had a pack of these in my fridge ready to go! They aren’t my favorite eye masks on the market but they do a good job and I know I will use them.

Worth it? Yes

9. Thrive Causemetics Eye Brightener Highlighting Stick $24

I was so happy to see Thrive in the box!! This is another product I already own and use regularly (ha!) so I gave this one away as a gift.

Worth it? Yes

Thoughts overall on the Winter 2018 fabfitfun Box:

My box’s total value was $319.

My personal value from the box was $286.

The verdict: I wasn’t too thrilled with this box when the spoilers were released, however, I do have to say that looking back, I got a lot of value from it! I count the items I already owned positively because it brought me joy to be able to share things I already love with people around me. (The value may end up being higher once I try the AHAVA mask.)

FabFitFun Year In Review: Is It Worth It?

So to do some quick math…

I paid a total of $179 for my subscription this year.

My boxes had a total retail value of $1,277.

My personal value from the boxes was $1,102.

Overall I am really happy being a fabfitfun subscriber! It’s fun to get the boxes every season and I love being an annual subscriber because I get to choose the items that I think I’ll like the best (plus add on additional choices for $10 like I did with the summer box).

As an annual subscriber, I also have access to add-ons, which open about a week before customization each season. I spend about $50-$100 each season on add-ons which give you the ability to purchase high-end items at a huge discount.

I would personally recommend being an annual subscriber if you can swing it. It’s nice to be able to select the items you want (including colors and patterns). I think it makes the overall value of the box much higher for each individual.

If you’re not a subscriber, what are your thoughts on the items from this past year?
