If you are a reader, which I’m assuming you are since you are reading this, you might be interested to know that we get to celebrate World Book Day on April 23. I love any excuse to celebrate my favorite books and one of my favorites is creating a cozy reading nook!
There are many activities that you could do to commemorate the day, however today we are talking about this one in particular. By the end of this post you’ll have all the information and resources that you need to create your very own book nook as a way to celebrate World Book Day
What Is A Reading Nook?
A reading/book nook is the place you go for some cozy reading time. It can be anything from a special corner in your bedroom, to its own space entirely. If you are an avid reader and are also looking for a way to define your reading space, creating a book nook is the perfect solution. In the next section I’ll be sharing ways to create a space all your own for you and your books.

Celebrate World Book Day By Creating A Cozy Reading Nook
Creating your very own reading nook can be a fun process. However, keep in mind that everyone’s reading nook is different. Don’t get caught up in the comparison game as you look for inspiration. Instead, focus on making your book nook unique to you. I’ll be sharing a ton of different options for you to consider.
First Step: Find A Space
Before you go off on a reading nook shopping spree, you need to determine where your cozy reading nook is going to be. Consider the space that you have in your home while making this decision.
Are you going to set up a corner of your bedroom with all your bookish items, dedicate a separate room as your home library, or create a she/he shed book haven in your backyard? Once you decide it’s time for the next step.
Second Step: Get Your Main Furniture
Now the fun begins. It’s time to go shopping. The main two pieces of furniture you need for a book nook is somewhere to sit/lay and, of course, bookshelves. You may also want to get an end table or two, depending on the space you have. Here are a few options that I think would be perfect for creating a book nook.
Chairs/Sofas For Your Celebrate World Book Day Reading Nook
BeanBag Reading Chair: This chair looks so comfy. I could sit there forever. It comes in a few different colors, so you can match your aesthetic to which one would fit best.
Sweetcrispy Cozy Saucer Chair: If you are looking for a chair to brighten up your space, this would be the one. With two fun pink options, as well as some chic neutral ones, you are sure to find one you love.
Penn Chair: Modern meets comfort with this chair from West Elm. It also comes in a few different neutral fabrics that you can choose from.
Stupendous Oversized Chaise: This would be my dream book nook chair. It’s got plenty of room, looks extra cozy, and even features a charging port and two cup holders. If you have the money to spend, this would be a great piece to invest in on your book nook.
Braedin Upholstered Accent Chair: A bonus about this chair is that it also includes a storable ottoman. There are a couple different fabric colors you have to choose from. This is perfect for smaller spaces.

Bookcases
72.71″ 5 Shelves Vertical Bookcase – Sauder: This is your basic bookshelf that you can get at almost any department store. This particular one is from Target.
BILLY: If you have a free corner as well as plenty of books, this is the bookcase for you.
IDEALHOUSE Bookshelf: This is a great budget-friendly option that will bring a modern touch to any room.
5-Tier Industrial Bookcase: I love the siding detail in this bookcase. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a unique twist to the traditional bookshelf.
End Tables
Living Room Side Table: I think this would be the perfect side table to get to put your current to-be-read books for the week/month. It’s also a bit different from other tables so you are bringing a unique piece to your reading nook.
VASAGLE Side Table with Charging Station: This side table is great for rooms that don’t have a lot of outlets, because you’ve got one right there in the table. Perfect for charging your e-reader or phone.
Apicizon Round Side Table: If you don’t need to store much, and just want something to lay a drink, or maybe annotation supplies on, this is the table for you. It’s simple, budget-friendly, and also great for any space.
Profile Side Table: On the other hand, if you think you’ll need a lot of storage space, this table would be a great choice. It’s got a modern feel, has plenty of surface space, and features a tiered level design.
Gerin Accent Table: This is another simple, but cute accent table. It comes in a few different fun colors so you can buy one that fits your reading nook aesthetic.
Third Step: Organize Your Book Shelves
This next step is perhaps the most tedious, but it must be done. It’s time to get all your books on the shelf and in the end this can be a very satisfying way to celebrate World Book Day by showing them some love & attention.
There are a variety of ways that you can organize your books. No way is better than the other, it all comes down to personal preference.
- By Color: If you are going for an aesthetically pleasing bookshelf, this is the way to go.
- By Author: If you have a lot of books from the same authors, this would be a good option.
- Alphabetical: Want to find a book by title easily? Try organizing your shelves alphabetically by title.
- By Genre: This is another solid option. It’s not as organized as some of the other ways, but still works.
- To Be Read/Read: At the time of writing this, this is currently how my bookshelf is. I have my To Be Read books at the top and then my Read books at the bottom. It’s satisfying when I move the books down to the Read rows because it shows that I have more space to buy books.

Fourth Step: Add Some Decor
Once you’ve got your furniture in place and bookshelves filled, it’s time to pull everything together with some fun bookish decor. What better way to celebrate World Book Day by adding some bookish wall art, bookshelf accents, plants, etc..
Adding decor will bring the cozy vibes into an ordinary space and truly transform the place into the reading nook you imagined. So, here are some decor options that would be great additions to your reading nook.
