25 Things to Do Before 2027 That Aren't About Career Success
The year has flown - 2027 is going to be here before we know it. It's that time of year when we go into panic mode, like we haven't done enough or all that we wanted to this year. The reality of getting anything on our to do before 2027 list done is dwindling.
There's so much pressure to always be "doing something" with your life in your 20s. Well, instead of focusing on the career and successful pressure we feel from this, what if we focus on things outside our resume?
Some of the best things you can accomplish before this year comes to an end have absolutely nothing to do with your professional life. What kinds of things are we talking about?
There is So Much to do Outside of Career Stuff before 2027
Goals about things like experiences, relationships, confidence, creativity, health, independence and just having fun. If those sound like ways you want to close out the year, here are the things you should do before 2027 gets here.
Tapping into Your Social Side
Reconnect with someone you miss
Text your college roommate you've lost touch with. Call a cousin or your grandparents. Reach out to an old friend. Don't wait for someone else to make the first move, you do it.
Take more pictures with the people you love
And no, we're not talking about the aesthetically pleasing Instagram photos. We're talking about the messy, ordinary pictures; the ones that are capturing the real, in the moment, snaps. Document birthdays, random nights in, family gatherings, dinners and so on. Future you will thank you.

Tell someone how much they mean to you.
When was the last time you told your partner? Or your parents? Or your bestie? Actually say it. Write that text, make the call or tell them in person.
Make a new friend
We know, this one seems absolutely daunting. Why is making friends as an adult so much harder? But take the imitative - invite someone to coffee, go to a meetup, join a class, etc.
Take a trip with friends
It doesn't have to be some elaborate international vacation, a weekend roadtrip counts and will give you tons of laughs and memories. This is the point - the memories - rather than waiting for the "perfect" time.
Make a memory you'll still talk about in 10 years
Don't overthink it, just buy the concert tickets, take the road trip, stay up late talking with friends. Do something worth remembering.
Things To Do for Yourself Before 2027
Take yourself on a solo date
Head to dinner, a movie, museum, coffee, all on your own. Why? It'll teach you that being alone isn't synonymous with being lonely.
Try something you're terrible at
Pottery, painting, cooking, tennis, karaoke, dancing, pickleball - whatever it may be. The point isn't to master it in the last few days of the year, it's to get comfortable being a beginner.
Have a "yes" day
Of course, this should be done within reason. Say yes to something you'd normally talk yourself out of. Side note, this is something not only something to do before 2027 but on a semi-regular basis.
Have a "no" day
Yes, the complete opposite, kind of. Say no without overexplaining yourself. For instance, don't attend something you don't want to attend simply because you feel guilty.
Buy yourself something you've wanted for a long time
We're not telling you to go bankrupt; it doesn't necessarily have to be something expensive. Make this about enjoying your money rather than saving it or spending it on necessities. It's a good reminder that you don't have to earn the right to enjoy your own life.
Options for a I Prefer to Stay at Home Today Day
Learn to cook one really good meal
Do this not because you "have" to as an adult, but because feeding yourself well is genuinely satisfying. Choose something you love to eat, too.

Create a home you enjoy coming back to
It doesn't matter if you have a house or an apartment; live alone, with a partner, with roommates or with your parents. Rearrange your room. Hang photos. Buy flowers. Clean out the junk drawer. Make your space feel like your own.
Start a hobby that has nothing to do with your job before 2027
Try something like gardening, photography, baking, gaming, reading, hiking, knitting, collecting records, etc.
Have a night where you do absolutely nothing productive
Literally - nothing. No errands, no side hustle, no cleaning, no catching up. Just order some food, watch a movie, read, play games, and get to sleep.
Make a list of things you actually like about your life
We're not talking about the things you should like, we're talking about the things you actually like. Write down your favorite places, routines, traditions, hobbies, people, etc.
Let go of one thing you don't need anymore
This could be anything like an old grudge, an outdated expectation, clothes you never wear, a friendship or a version of yourself you've outgrown.
Delete an app that's taking too much of your time
Try a week without it. It could be TikTok, Instagram, dating apps, Reddit - whatever. See how you feel after a little detox.. and pay attention to all the things you're getting done instead.
Spend an entire day without checking your phone
If an entire day feels unrealistic, try a phone-free morning/evening. Again, pay attention to how you feel and all the things you're getting done.
Going Out on a Limb things to do Before 2027
Go somewhere you've never been
Again, this also doesn't have to be a major vacation. It could be to a new restaurant, museum, neighborhood, city or hiking trail.
Do one thing that scares you before 2027
We're not saying to go and jump out of a plane (unless you really want to!) What we are saying is to put yourself in healthy discomfort, not actual danger. This could include public speaking, going to an event alone, traveling alone, taking a new class, etc.

Change your mind about something
You're allowed to change your mind as you grow - that's something a lot of us have a hard time accepting. Maybe you've outgrown an opinion, a lifestyle choice, an expectation, a friendship dynamic or the idea of what your life "should" look like.
Forgive yourself for something
It's up to you to figure out what that "something" is, whether it's a bad decision, a failed relationship, a mistake you made when you were younger, or wasted time.
Do something your younger self would be proud of
This one can be pretty emotional and nostalgic. Buy the thing you couldn't afford as a kid, see your favorite artist, learn something you always wanted to learn, etc.
Stop waiting for your life to "start"
You've already "arrived." Life is already happening. Be sure to enjoy it!
