Things Keeping You from Your Dream Job

Many people spend their time thinking about their dream job. But this is exactly what it is. A dream. Unless you start taking action to find it, you won’t get there. Don’t assume that someone is simply going to knock on your door and offer it to you. As well as thinking about the ways in which you can find your dream job, you can also look closer at the common barriers which are getting in your way. And that is exactly what we will be doing in this blog post. So, if you recognise that any of the following things are tripping you up, now is the time to take action to do something about it.

You Are Stuck in Your Comfort Zone

They say that you should be doing something every day that scares you. Otherwise, you are in danger of getting stuck inside your comfort zone. And while this may be a very reassuring place to be, it is unlikely that you are going to find your dream job this way. Finding your dream job is bound to be a risk, and there will be plenty of people out there telling you that you can’t do it. But if you make a commitment to step outside of your comfort zone, you never know what sort of rewards you may gain from doing so.

You Are a Procrastinator

Another source of comfort for people is telling themselves that they will find their dream job in the coming weeks, months or years. However, if you keep procrastinating, you are never going to achieve your goals as there will always be something which gets in the way. There is no time like the present. Now is the time to start taking action. Even if you only take small steps to begin with, it is a good feeling to know that you are doing something to achieve your goals. You could make a plan to make sure that you are getting there little by little.

You Are Afraid of Failure

A lot of people remain terrified of failure, preferring not to take the risk in the first place. But rather than focusing on the prospect of not achieving your goals, you should instead look at the possibilities which are out there if you do achieve them. If you do happen to fail along the way, you shouldn’t let this deter you in any way. Just remember that many of life’s greatest success stories have only occurred after failure. And if you don’t take risks now, it is likely that you will end up looking back later in life and wondering what might have been.

You Are Not Organized Enough

Sure, some people are more naturally inclined towards organizational skills than others, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t improve your skills. Drafting out a to-do list with some clear deadlines should be well within everyone’s capability levels. There are also plenty of technological items which can help you out such as apps. Another alternative is to enlist the help of someone who is more organized to help keep you on the right path.

You Don’t Have the Right Skills

Of course, not having the right skillset can be a serious barrier which is blocking you from achieving your goals. But thanks to internet studying, it is easier than ever to gain the qualifications which you require. There are all sorts of course options out there. Everything from general studies such as language skills to more specific courses like a master of applied business analytics online. This way, you can balance your studies around the other responsibilities which you currently have going on in your life.

You Are Eager to Please Others

So many people go down a career path because they believe that it will please their family, their friends or even that it will give them a good reputation in front of strangers. But this is not likely to provide you with the type of long-lasting satisfaction that you are looking for. Ultimately, you have to do something because it is right for you, not because other people think that it is right for you. Of course, certain jobs have higher statuses than others, but you should try to ignore this as much as you can – even though it can be very challenging.

You Are Not Good at Networking

One of the best ways that you can find a new job opportunity is by networking successfully. You never know what sort of opportunities your network of contacts may put forward for you. And by speaking to people more about their jobs, you may discover potential career paths which you had never thought about before. Of course, a lot of people don’t count social skills amongst their list of strengths. But just like the organizational skills which we discussed earlier in this article, you can always improve if you work hard enough at them.

You Are Unwilling to Go the Extra Mile

If something is your dream job, it is a pretty safe bet that other people will have the same idea as well. You can’t expect an opportunity to just land on your lap. You are going to have to put in the hard work to ensure that your dream becomes a reality. And there are bound to be obstacles that you encounter along the way. Ultimately, it all comes back to your determination levels and how much you really want to achieve your goals and ambitions.

Pretty much everyone has been guilty of one or more of the above sins and one time or another. But just because you have shown these negative qualities before, it doesn’t mean that you can’t make a special effort to change. Now is the time to commit yourself to finding your dream job and achieving higher levels of satisfactions and fulfilment in your life.
