6 Ways to Always Look Professional

When you first get out of school, there are so many daunting things to consider. It’s the first chance for you to put yourself out there, and unfortunately, it’s not as kind or forgiving as the young student life is.

One thing I’ve learned, now that I’m in my mid-twenties and out in the working world, is that looking professional is an extremely important aspect of your career. No matter where you work or what your doing, your appearance will either pull people toward you or push them away. It may be shallow, but oftentimes a messy look is reflective of a messy employee–and that’t not the vibe you want to give off, right?

Here are a few tips to making sure your look is on point to show the working world what you are made of:

1. Looking professional doesn’t have to be expensive.

As a frugal lady myself, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get the look you want. Make sure you take time to cruise through lots of stores and don’t be afraid to hit up sales. I can guarantee that you can find almost identical pants that are $30 instead of $130.

2. Blazers are your best friend.

One staple in my wardrobe are many different kinds of blazers. They can go with dresses, skirts and dress pants. It shows others that you are assertive and that you are serious about being where you are. Don’t be afraid to add blazers with lots of color.

3. Only wear what you are comfortable in.

This is such an important rule. When you wear something you feel confident in, that confidence shines through and others take notice. You want to be able to show your full potential,

4. Accessories are the finishing touch.

When you complete an outfit, the best part is deciding what sparkle to add to it all. Make sure it’s doesn’t take away from your whole outfit but it compliments what you are already wearing. It could be something as small as stud earrings or that cute long necklace that your grandma used to wear. You’d be surprised how jewelry can pull a whole outfit together.

5. Make sure you have the right shoes.

They need to be comfortable yet stylish.  Sometimes you are on your feet all day and those heels need to step up to the plate! I am the queen of comfort and you don’t have to ruin the style to get it.

6. Always dress up rather than dress down.

One piece of advice that I have never forgotten was to always dress up instead of dress down. If you are in a situation where you are unsure of the dress code, it’s better to be over dressed then under.  It shows people you put effort in and it makes you stand out in the crowd, rather then being hidden by jeans and a t-shirt.
