In this post, I’m going to be sharing my experience with the Sakara Level II Detox (view the detox guide here). This is not my first experience with Sakara – I have done both their regular meal plan and their detox plans in the past. This is my first experience with this particular program, though.
I couldn’t find a really comprehensive review of this program before starting it so I wanted to write it myself and share my thoughts and experiences.
They have condensed their programs over time and now only have the Signature Nutrition Program and the Level II Detox.
I do wish they had a 3-day version of the detox instead of 5. For many people, 5 days is a lot to commit to due to scheduling and timing. I think there are already many benefits of doing the cleanse for 3 days and I think Sakara would benefit from offering this.

So, What Is The Sakara Level II Detox?
This program is a 5-day plant-based detox guide designed to support deeper cleansing, nutrient-rich meals, hydration, body rituals, and a temporary elimination of common triggers to help reboot the body’s natural detox systems. It’s designed to mimic fasting and to reset and recharge your body while you reconnect with satiety and hunger cues.
During the detox, you’ll have:
- Three whole-food, plant-powered meals each day — averaging ~72 different plant ingredients daily.
- Hydration “touchpoints” throughout the day (e.g., specific tonics) to support detoxification and cellular function.
- Body ritual component: includes instructions for “body gua sha” (a tool-based technique aimed at supporting lymphatic flow and circulation).
- Three supplements to take daily: B-Complex, Vitamin D3, and Magnesium Glycinate.
The detox eliminates meat, dairy, animal products, gluten, grains, refined sugar, soy, corn, nightshades, alcohol and caffeine. I personally did still choose to have coffee every day but know that is not completely in the spirit of the detox.

Know Your Why Going Into It
It’s been a while, over 3 years since I last completed a cleanse with Sakara. The program is extremely expensive (it will run you about $500 for the week) so it was a decision I did not make lightly. I did use my friend Emily’s code to save some money on the program.
I had personally been craving a bit of a reset for a while. I am quite active (tracking 10-12k steps per day) and I strength train 3x per week. However, due to lots of travel over the summer and crazy schedules, I felt like I had been falling into less than ideal meal behaviors and choices for me. Things like snacking late and often, eating out more frequently, etc were making me feel bloated and lethargic.
I wanted to go through this program to help reset my mindset. I personally do far better with my habits when everything is prepared for me and I have to follow a specific regimen. When things are too out of my control, my discipline suffers.
I really wanted to infuse my body with nutrients and hydration without depravation while I rested and did some mental work to reconnect with my body and goals.

My Personal Tips For The Sakara Level II Detox
After completing the detox as a paying customer, I have a couple of tips for you if you choose to do it.
First, pick the easiest week in your schedule. It’s a hard program to stick to in the best of times and you’ll make it even harder on yourself if you have a significant number of events or commitments. Part of the detox is rest and relaxation as well so I would personally try to clear your calendar as much as possible while you commit to it.
Know that you are going to be hungry. The plan is calorie restrictive and though it focuses on filling, nutrient dense foods, it’s still far less than you are probably used to eating.
This is why it is so important to remember your why. When you are struggling with satiety, you need to come back to the reasons you are doing this program in the first place. It is challenging physically, especially if you experience any side effects of the detox. Remind yourself that it is only 5 days are you are capable and the benefits will be worth it.
There will be some side effects. The say you can experience possible fatigue, headaches, bloating, brain fog, mood shifts as the body detoxifies. I personally experienced a lot of gas. I also had a headache one day for a few hours. The quality of my sleep went up per my Oura ring but the length of my sleep went down (I slept just 4.5 hours one night when I usually sleep 7-8).
Around half of the meals just aren’t good. They are designed for nutrients and detoxing, not so much for flavor in my opinion. If you are a food texture person, you probably will struggle. I am not so much a texture person and a few of the meals were difficult for me to get through. The detox is less about enjoying food and more about cleansing your system. None of them are “bad” per say, but they are not delicious. I also did not enjoy any of the tonics.
It’s been awhile since I’ve had a Sakara meal, but their signature program meals were always pretty delicious, if I remember correctly. Some of the meals on the detox were tasty but others felt like they were just for the benefits of what was in them.
Who Is It For and Who Is It Not For?
I can tell you right off the bat this is not for you if you are a picky eater. The meals are all plant-based and kind of intense, even for someone like me who likes a variety of vegetables.
I also think it’s not for you if you are not ready to commit to the detox. It is 5 days of a commitment and it is going to be difficult at times. I think you will benefit the most if you are truly willing to commit to it.
While it is not recommended, I did do this reset while breastfeeding. My son is 16 months old and I felt comfortable doing it. However, if you are early postpartum or pregnant, I would wait.
You also can’t customize any of the meals so if you have any allergies, especially to nuts, it’s definitely not something you’ll want to do.

What Were My Results? Was it worth it?
And the finally, to the part you’re likely most curious about. What were my results? I did lose about 6lbs during the week I was on the cleanse, though any weight loss from it was not my goal. I also just felt lighter and less weighed down by my food choices. I also noticed myself focusing specially on the habits I was trying to break and feeling very strong in sticking to my goals with them.
For instance, I often find myself snacking in the afternoons even if I am not hungry and I noticed I would want a snack and had no problem reminding myself that food was not what I needed right now.
I also was able to better reconnect with my body’s hunger cues and feelings of satiety and I feel like this is probably one of the most important takeaways for me during this week. It’s okay to experience a feeling of hunger and it’s also ok to not eat until you are stuffed. There is a middle ground that provides both more energy and mental clarity.
Final Thoughts
To wrap it all up, the Level II Detox from Sakara is a strict cleanse that helps reset not just your body but your mind as well. I did not find it particularly enjoyable and I would like to see some of the meals changed out. For example, the lasagna verde on the last day had me gagging and I didn’t want it at all.
I think if you have never done a cleanse before, I would probably start with just 3 days of Sakara meals. I think the full detox is best for people who are going into it with very clear intentions of their goals and who are in a place to actually get the most out of every aspect of the cleanse. I mostly say this because of the price tag. If the cleanse was half the price, I would be more inclined to say it is worth it.
