I am a summer girl through and through. There is nothing I love more than the sun beating down on me and feeling the heat. I do not fair so well in the winter, which is why it has become my hibernation season.

It gets dark early. It’s so cold. The wind hurts your face whenever you are outside. Your fingers freeze. You slip on snow and ice. Ugh, the absolute misery.

Can you relate? Excellent. Let’s celebrate hibernation season together. Here are some ideas for you to enjoy hibernation season.

How To Celebrate Hibernation Season

Have Your Own Happy Hour At Home

The thought of happy hour is what helps many of us get through the work day. This is something we all love taking advantage of in the summer, especially as we can enjoy ourselves outdoors, on a rooftop.

But in the winter, trekking to the bar to then after to go back outside and trek home, can be unappealing. Bring happy hour to your home instead. Invite some friends or neighbors over, and mix up some delicious cocktails for everyone.

Take advantage of warmer drinks like mulled wine or cider, too. Or, if you want to have your own happy hour, enjoy a warm beverage or two by yourself, snuggled in your favorite blanket on the couch, to help unwind from the day.

Invite Your Friends Over For Sleepovers 

Who said sleepovers are only for teenage girls? Enjoy the company of your besties, all from the comfort of your own home (or one of their homes).

Have a movie night, order in, make popcorn, dance around your home, and have the best time ever — all without having to go outside. It’s a great, easy, and budget-friendly way to spend time with your friends and catch up with your friends.

We know how hard it is to have a good catch-up session out at a bar with music blaring. A sleepover can really contribute to bonding time.

Throw More House Parties 

The thought of having to lug a heavy jacket, hat, scarf, gloves, and wearing weather appropriate boots to a bar just makes me cringe, what about you? If you still want to enjoy a good party, throw a house party for you and your friends instead.

Make it casual attire so no one has to worry about coming in that warm sweater they love to wear in the cold. If it’s a small shindig and you have the room, invite everyone to sleep over afterwards, too.

Host Movie Nights 

We are all guilty of loving all the holiday Hallmark movies that air. Whether you want to enjoy these by yourself or invite friends over to have a watch party, having movie nights is a perfect way to spend a winter evening.

The movies are entertaining and what tons of people on social media are talking about, so you can get into the conversation. If you do prefer to watch movies with others, take turns hosting a movie night as each of your homes.

Turn it into a “movie club” of sorts! And, of course, be sure to come in warm and comfy clothing.

Use This Time For Rest 

If you are like me, you are constantly on the go in the summer. You are the type of person who wants to take advantage of the warm weather, and does so to the fullest. As much fun as this is, it can be tiring.

This is why I like to spend more time during the winter giving my body the rest that it needs. Go to bed at a normal time, sleep in on weekends when you can, relax on your couch more post work. Whatever it is that works best for your body, take part in it a bit more in the winter.

Catch Up On Reading 

Did you get a bit distracted during the warmer months from reading? It happens. Use the wintertime to catch up on all of those books you said you would read this year but weren’t able to get around to.

If it is too cold to go out or if you are snowed into your home due to a blizzard, light a few candles, get the fireplace going, grab your favorite blanket, and pick up a good book. This is personally one of my favorite ways to spend a cold, winter day.

Keep a Fitness Routine

Hibernation season can be a time when you just want to lounge around with cozy food and drinks — we totally get it! But that can really take a toll on you mentally and physically. Since we’re limited more so by the weather this time of year, get moving inside your own home! Getting a good dose of endorphins in everyday will help improve your mood and help you sleep better too.

Once it starts getting dark the time I leave from work, all I want to do is get home, and get on my couch. But, that does not mean you have to stop enjoying yourself in the winter. There are tons of ways to still enjoy hibernation season, whether by yourself or with friends.
