We’re about three months into the year and many people have already left their health resolutions behind. After the holidays and resolution season, our typical schedules resume and it’s often difficult to maintain focus on the health goals we established for ourselves. Even when we start off with the best intentions, things happen.

Before you give up completely and decide to just try again next year, don’t beat yourself up about it! Life happens and it’s okay if you’ve gotten off track. Every day is a chance to start again and refocus yourself on what you want to achieve. I know it can be difficult to stay on top of your health goals when things get busy. Over the years, I’ve learned a few things about small changes that have a huge impact on sticking to your goals:

1. Do something small.

Even a quick circuit workout or a few minutes of yoga and stretching can make a huge difference in your overall wellbeing. Not to mention that even moving a little bit can help motivate you to keep going and do a full workout. Never underestimate the power of simply putting on your gym shoes and going through the motions a few times. Even if you don’t make it to the gym or do a high intensity workout, you’re training your brain to get into the habit of exercise.

2. Chew gum in between meals.

If you’re a snacker, chewing a piece of Orbit gum is a great way to eliminate mindless eating between meals. Staying mindful about your food choices will help your overall health goals by minimizing your snacking throughout the day. At 5-10 calories per piece, picking up a piece of gum is a great way to help you pursue a balanced lifestyle.

A consumer research study showed that people group gum with healthier foods with granola, fruits, and nuts. Chewing a piece of Orbit gum can also make you feel more confident because you know you have a fresh and clean mouth, ready to take on anything.

Keep a pack of gum on you so you’ll be prepared whenever the urge to snack strikes. Orbit sugarfree gum is availabe in eight different flavors (Spearmint, Peppermint, Wintermint, Bubblemint, Strawberry, Citrus, Sweet Mint and Orbit White) — there’s something for everyone.

3. Plan your meals and workouts ahead of time.

You’ve probably seen meal-prepping photos on Instagram, but it’s a method that works–and not just for fitness gurus! Planning your meals out ahead of time will aid you in resisting temptation and sticking to healthier food choices throughout the week. It also may be helpful for you to plan out your more indulgent meals ahead of time. When you know something you love is coming up, it’s easier to stay focused on your goals.

Add your workouts to your calendar, too. Schedule in classes or workouts with friends to help keep you accountable.

4. Think about why you started.

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably resolved to start eating better and taking better care of your body. It may have even been on of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2017. Keep notes around your house or in your car with motivational quotes to bring your mind back to the goal you are trying to achieve.

When you see these reminders daily, it’s easier to push through the tough moments and remember why you are working so diligently towards a better you.

5. Get outside.

Spending time in nature is one of the most uplifting things you can do for yourself. We spend so much time indoors, especially in the winter time, that it is a welcome reprieve when you can spend time breathing fresh air and soaking in the sunlight.

You don’t have to climb mountains, either. A quick stroll through a park or a walk down the street on your lunch break will make a huge difference in helping you stick to your health goals.

If you haven’t stuck to your goals as much as you would have liked, it’s okay! There’s plenty of time to get back on track. What health goals are your working towards this year?
