6 Productivity Tips That Will Change The Way You Use Your Time

Life is busy. There is always something going on. From working full-time, to side-hustling, to having a social life, to family commitments, to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, to having a social life — it can be difficult to juggle all of this. This is why it is important to prioritize, stay organized, and be productive. It can seem impossible, I get it. I’ve been there. I know the feeling. That’s why I wanted to share some of my productivity tips and tricks with you.

6 Productivity Tips That Will Change The Way You Use Your Time

1. Keep a To-Do List

I don’t care how good you think your memory is — keep lists. Whether it’s an array of post-its scattered across your computer or one large to-do list, write it down. Figure out your own style and what works best for you.

Doing this will help you stay on top of everything you need to do — whether it be professional or personal. We all forget sometimes, which is why it is important to have whatever you need to get done written down.

Plus, there is no greater satisfaction than crossing something off of your lost or throwing a post-it out after completion. It also shows you everything you have done, giving you an extra boost to get more things done.

2. Do Work When You Have Time

If you have come into some extra time that you did not expect, take advantage of it. It may be tempting to take a nap or start binge watching a new series on Netflix, but don’t do it (unless you are exhausted and need a break). Use this time to get some work done and to be productive.

Have you been putting off mopping your floors? Here’s your change. Got a new freelance assignment that isn’t due until the end of the week? Get it done now so you do not need to worry about it. Spend your free time productively — it’ll allow you to use future free time for fun.

3. Put Your Phone Away

Ah, this one is the kicker. If you absolutely need to be productive and you keep getting distracted, put your phone on do not disturb and put it in another room. This way, you are not tempted to check every text message you receive the second your phone dings or to scroll through Instagram.

You are eliminating a distraction in order to get done what you need to get done. Our phones have become a prime form of distraction and procrastination. If you want to be productive, put it away. And if you are not easily distracted by your phone, teach us your ways.

4. Find Your Space

Do you get more work done with music on or without? Looking outside or not having the distraction of a window? In the morning or at late night? You need to figure out in which atmosphere you work best in and take advantage of it.

For instance, I am too much of a people person so I am not one to ever go to a local coffee shop to get work done, as I would get too distracted people watching or striking up conversations with those around me. I need to sit in my home, alone, with music blasting. This isn’t the case for everyone. Try out different environments and see which one you get the most work done it.

5. Take Breaks

This sounds counterproductive, doesn’t it? But it’s important to get up, stretch your legs, and take a break from what you are doing whether that be writing, working, cleaning, etc.

Taking a break allows you to not think about the exact thing you were thinking about for an extended period of time. It gives your brain some time off. It allows you to refresh, and then come back with a new perspective.

6. Give Yourself Incentives

Who doesn’t love a good incentive? I know I do. If there is something that you have especially been putting off, reward yourself with something when you finish it.

It doesn’t have to be a huge trip somewhere (but if you have the means, go for it!). It can be small like giving yourself the night off tomorrow or having a little extra ice cream for dessert. Giving yourself something to look forward to helps to motivate you to get something done.

Everyone is different. Different things works for different people. What helps me be productive may not be what helps you be more productive. It is important to figure out what works for you and what makes you more productive.

The above tips and tricks are meant to serve as a guide to help you. Plus, they’re all pretty easy to do. Try them out and see if they work for you. And if they do, comment below, let us know, and tell us what you were able to get done.
