I know you’ve thought about it: what would you do if the whole world went crazy and everyone was turned into a mindless, mind-eating zombie? Well, almost everyone. Because of course you—yes, you—would survive. Why, you’d gather together the world’s largest gun supply, stake out the local supermarket, and live long and prosper for the rest of your days, right? WRONG. Here are some more practical preparations to take instead to help guarantee your survival in the post-apocalyptic zombie-riddled world.
Find Your Weapon
To survive the zombie apocalypse, you need to be able to defend yourself. So what’s going to be your weapon of choice? It really comes down to what you’re good at. Do you have good aim? Are you really strong? Are mind tricks a strength of yours? Look at your talents and customize a defense strategy that utilizes them. I, for example, have scary-good aim and can pack some wicked force behind a swing, so my weapon of choice is an aluminum baseball bat…with some nine inch nails welded into the end. Did I mention I’m brutally creative too?
Find Your Posse
Everyone who has seen a horror movie ever knows that there’s strength in numbers. So instead of wandering off by yourself when the living dead gets a case of the munchies, gather together a group. You’ll help each other survive and the additional company will prevent you all from going totally insane.
Find Your Provisions
Yes, food is important. But what about light sources, heat sources, practical and sturdy clothing, and other basic tools? Eventually the power will go out and your four inch zebra-print stilettos will not aid you in outrunning hordes of starving zombies. Try canned foods, water bottles, candles, flashlights, extra batteries, blankets, tennis shoes or hiking boots, matches, and hammers or hatchets.
These tips are practical for a lot more than zombie onslaught preparations. Finding your weapon will make you take a look at your strengths and weaknesses and think about how your talents can help you. Finding your posse makes you look at your friends and family and appreciate their strengths. Your mom is great at sewing and First Aid, your best friend was a Boy Scout and knows how to starts fires, your girlfriend is a walking encyclopedia and knows a little bit about everything…all of these can be very helpful in surviving. And lastly, finding your provisions is just straight-up practical. If a storm takes out your power, you should have candles and flashlights. And everyone in their twenties should have a pair of good, sturdy footwear.
While these preparations will most definitely help you survive any future zombie-fueled end-of-times, they’ll also help you survive life. Know yourself, appreciate the people you love, and be ready for a little bit of everything…those three tips can get you through anything.
