We love this gorgeous print from spellandtell as a reminder to never give up.
Have you ever felt like giving up? I am sure you have. We’ve all felt like giving up on our dreams, ourselves, life, the person sitting next to you, or maybe just the task that is right in front of you.
Everyone has felt like giving up at least once in his or her lifetime.
But what is it that keeps up from giving up and still trying to reach our goals?
We need to stop asking, “what if?”
For me, it’s knowing that all the times I gave up and stopped trying were the times I truly felt like I failed. Then I had to live with the fact that I stopped trying. One thing I hate the most is living with regret. Regret is almost as bad as fear. You know when you start playing the “what if” game?
Like, what if I told him how I felt instead of being scared. Would we have worked out?
What if I had changed my career goal before I left college? Would my life be better?
What if I let that toxic friend go sooner? Would that have made a difference in my life?
The truth is yes; I could have ended up with the love of my life, with the job I really want now, without the drama my friend caused me for so many years. But that is not the life I chose. I chose to live the life I have now. So playing the “what if” game with myself is not going to solve the problems in front of me. The things I can focus on are: my family, friends, school, writing, and potential of love.
If I want to be fulfilled in all those aspects of my life then I can never give up on myself. Because giving up on myself sounds like a very boring and unfulfilling life. What do you think?
I have someone I have known my entire life. He has always been a little lost but had a job to support himself and lived simply and that was all he wanted out of life. He was so full of life and didn’t care what people thought about him. Then one-day things started to change. I don’t know what made him shift is attitude, but he completely gave up on himself.
Now when I see him I kind of feel sorry for him because he is not the person I use to know. So life didn’t work out the way you wanted it to? So what! Get up and move on.
Sometimes we need a swift kick in the ass to bring us back to reality and realize that life is not over and we should always keep trying.
I know it can be so easy to stop trying but it is only easier because you are seeing the present. You are not imagining the future. Take a second, close your eyes and think about a situation you have going on in your life that you feel like giving up on.
Okay, you got it?
Now think about what your life would be like if you stop trying. Is it better? Is it worse? If it is worse then you better not give up now. If it looks worse… well, that is a whole other article for another day.

I hope you take a chance on yourself and try even if it is just one more time.
What can it really hurt if you keep trying for the things that really matter to you? And if you ever need some reassurance, think of what everyone’s favorite memory-impaired fish, Dory would say, “Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.”
