6 Tips to Start Practicing Daily That Will Help You Be Healthier Right Now

With summer just around the corner, many of us are dreading pulling out the bikinis for the warm weather. But I am here to tell you that you don’t need to fear swimsuit season — ever.

Here are 6 habits you can embrace in your daily life to help you feel healthier this summer:

  1. Chug! Chug! Chug! – No I don’t mean beer (even though I know some of you were hoping I would say that). I mean water. Drinking water is the best thing you can be doing for your body. With the warm summer months ahead you do not want to get dehydrated. Drinking water not only helps with the belly bloat, it also helps make your skin look better, and boosts your metabolism too.
  1. Step away from the salt – Too much salt or sodium intake can cause water retention. If you love salt, then try something else to add flavor to your food. There are so many natural seasonings out there to try that you never have to add salt to a meal again if you don’t want to. I love using lemon pepper, basil, or rosemary to spice up my meals. I guarantee your mouth and your belly will appreciate the seasoning switch.
  1. Put down the sugary soda drinks – Sugar is one of the worst things you can put in your body. Not only does soda put your bones at risk for osteoporosis, it can also lead to weight gain. According to researchers from the University of Texas found that over the course of about a decade, diet soda drinkers had a 70 percent greater increase in waist circumference compared with non-drinkers. Avoid sodas and carbonated beverages to avoid the bloated feeling, opt for water or iced tea instead.
  1. Add a little more color to your plate – When I say to add more color to your plate, I mean load up that plate with veggies and fruit. Trust me your body will thank you later. When you are out, opt for a salad with the dressing on the side instead of the greasy fries or onion rings. Even sweet potato fries aren’t always the best option. If you have at least three to four different colors on your plate you are on the right track. Not only does choosing veggies and fruit cut your calorie intake down, they are also packed with vitamins and antioxidants that are good for your body.
  1. Get plenty of sleep – The average adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep. If you are not getting enough sleep you are putting yourself and your health at risk. Lack of sleep can cause depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, and even diabetes. Another little known fact if it can also cause weight gain. Your body needs that time to reset and get ready for the next day, so do it a favor and hit the pillow a little earlier when you’re spending long summer days outside.
  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff – There is so much going on in our daily lives that it is easy to get stressed out. Try letting go of the small things you can’t control so you can let yourself breathe a little. Stress can sometimes cause food cravings, and not for the fruits and veggies your body thrives on. Stress can also cause your body to store more fat tissue in your belly area. So ladies, if you find yourself stressing out, close your eye takes a deep breath and count to 10.

Not only are these 6 tips great for helping you feel your best this summer, they will help you for the rest of your life. These simple fixes will lead you to a happier and healthier you. I know these things helped me feel better even during those pesky winter months, and I’m looking forward to seeing more positive changes in my body this summer.
