WinterClothes

Winter is great, but no one likes having to wake up for work up at too-early o’clock when it’s still dark out, the floor is cold, and all you want to do is put on a big sweater and snuggle back under the covers. Unfortunately, unless you have a really relaxed company culture, that’s just not an option for most of us. However, while you might not be able to wear a boyfriend sweater to the office, there are plenty of stylish tricks that will keep you just as warm while still being office appropriate.

Thick Tights – Pants are easy to fall back on in colder months, but for those of you who prefer skirts and dresses, there’s hope! Invest in some good quality, thick tights. Look for something that is at least 300 denier. (Denier measures the density of the fibers; the higher the denier number, the warmer you’ll be!). They’re probably going to be more expensive than the $5 pair you might pick up at Target, but they’ll keep you much warmer and will run less!

Cute & Logical Coat – A cute work coat is a must. While it’s tempting to snatch up a new parka in October when you’re looking forward to snow and crisp walks through the snow, investing mid-season is a much better option. Stores are already packing up their North Faces and putting the bikinis out. Now is the time to grab that piece you’ve been eyeing all month at half the price! It’s also much easier to make a logical coat choice in February when you know how cold it is outside. No one wants to invest in a coat in October because it’s cute, only to find out it doesn’t have the insulation you need in the middle of winter.

The Chunky Sweater – Speaking of insulation, sometimes it gets so cold that that boyfriend sweater from before just has to come with you to the office. If you’re savvy enough, there’s no reason you can’t have the best of both worlds. The key here is balance. Don’t pair a loose and cozy boyfriend sweater with a unstructured, flowy skirt. Pair it with something architectural and put-together, like a pencil skirt or skinny slacks, and belt it at the waist for added shape. Done correctly, no one will know that you’re pulling a fast one on them and you’ll be snug as a bug!

Warmth often feels like it has to trump style in the office, but that’s not the case! Armed with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can survive the dead of winter in the workplace and be the best-dressed employee while doing it.
