There are a lot of people in my life who have played a large, significant role and who have helped shaped me into the person I am today. These people all deserve their own shout out too, but for today I want to pay tribute to my girlfriends, the people who I turn to when all else fails with problems both large and small.
Now recently I got engaged and a part of this wedding planning process involved choosing bridesmaids, to me this was easy there were three girls who I knew I wanted up there supporting me on the day of and during all events leading up.
Those outside of my immediate family did not understand how friends would make the cut over family. Maybe I was cold and selfish, harsh words said behind my back, but what I honestly felt was that asking these three girls who collectively have offered over thirty years of friendship to me can’t be taken for granted.
There comes a point after years of schooling, heart break, moves, apartments, first houses, engagements, weddings and babies that when you look back and recognize the constant few people who stayed around for all of it, offering only kind words of encouragement then you realize that these people will be here for it all.
The roles each of these girls has played in my life are vast: colleague, roommate, classmate, friend, confidant, therapist, cook, nurse, coach and the list goes on.
There are a few people in this world who are there when you need it most so to the only people who will ever bring me soup while fully contagious with H1N1, offer to drive me to the airport when you live three hours away and offer unconditional love and support through all of life’s stages and adventures: Thank you!
