Confessions Of a Millennial Coffee Lover

Motivation. Awaken. Latte. Black. Caffeine.

All of these words mean one thing: Coffee. The one word that speaks the most to us millennials.

You don't NEED it... but your day goes much better with it.

You have it on a daily basis, especially when you’re a coffee lover. The smell, the taste, the effects… we’ve depended on it from our years of pulling all nighters in college to waking up for our 9-to-5 jobs.

Of course you don’t need coffee to survive. But it does make the day just a bit easier to get through.

Here are some confessions of a millennial coffee lover:

You have your “type.”

We all have our favorites, treats, and the everyday go-to brew. Some of us like it black. Some us live for the PSL (pumpkin spice latte, of course). Others are iced latte lovers, chai all the way or cold brew only. Whatever your type is, it’s the thing you order everywhere, no matter where you’re getting your daily brew from.

Nescafe

Our parents’ generation typically prefers their coffee black or with cream and sugar. We millennials, however, tend to enjoy our flavors, varieties of blends, and things like caffè mistos and frappuccinos. Many of us have also delved into making coffee at home. Whether you’re into pour over, Nespresso, DIY cold brew or a classic cup, there are many at-home options for everyone. You  might be wondering if it’s  worth investing in a fancy machine –  we’ve even asked ourselves, is Ninja coffee maker a good choice for us? Or should we invest in a Nespresso or a Breville? The choice is yours, coffee lover!

But let’s be honest, are there really generational divides when it comes to coffee? We all love it.

You’re the person in the office who makes multiple pots per day.

Coffee is a constant. You wake up, you have coffee. It’s just as essential as brushing your teeth. But it doesn’t just stop there. You drink coffee throughout the day and into the afternoon (even though you know that last cup will probably keep you up past midnight).

And, let’s face it, you probably work best with a cup of coffee on your desk.

Working in an office setting makes it super easy to down a couple cups a day. Even if you’ve gotten enough to get you through your work, it’s just sitting there… so why not drink it?

You can be a coffee snob, but coffee is better than no coffee (am I right?).

When you have a local coffee shop you rave about or are a member of a monthly coffee club is when you know you’re a coffee addict. Coffee lovers know what they like.

There are some days that a full pot of coffee doesn’t make any sense or you don’t have time to go to a coffee shop, but you still need your caffeine jolt. Say hello to instant coffee. You can take it with you to drink after the gym, on your way out the door in the morning, or even in between meetings at work! Seriously, it’s worth trying.

Here are some of my favorite coffee quotes to hold you over while you’re next pot is brewing…

  1. “Coffee. Because adulting is hard.” Most of us can agree with this statement because how else would we make it through a 9-5 when we could have barely sat through an hour chemistry lab in college.
  2. “Coffee keeps me going until it’s time for wine.” Every coffee drinker is known for being a wine aficionado. Raise your hands if you’re one of them?
  3. It’s worth it to travel out of your way to pick your favorite roast for the next two weeks.
  4. “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had at least one cup of coffee.”
  5. “First I drink coffee and then I go do things.” I think we can all agree on this one.
  6. “I run on coffee and cuss words.”
  7. We love when baristas get our name wrong… even though we’ve been in twice that day. It doesn’t matter.

These are just a few confessions of a coffee lover. The daily grind is a whole lot easier when you can wake up and savor your coffee. It just gets the day off to a great start.

Having your coffee every morning is just as important as getting the right amount sleep at night. Am I exaggerating? Maybe. But I’m sure most millennials will agree that your morning coffee is what sets the tone for the day. Just remember, behind every successful woman is a substantial amount of coffee. So, bottoms up!
